How to Create a Traditional, Open-Plan Kitchen

An open-plan kitchen – you've either got one or want one, right?

Their popularity is not surprising; open-plan kitchens are social, inviting, and impressive entertaining spaces.

With this in mind, take a look at this recent project. One that ticks the 'open-plan' box whilst also meeting the multifunctional needs of a 2021 home.

Here's how to achieve this classic kitchen design:

Image of an open-plan classic kitchen design with the shaker style in a Dove Grey colour pallet.

Our objective was to create a flexible space in neutral tones that complemented the rest of the home's interiors. A room perfect for entertaining, chilling and family time.

That's why a classic bespoke shaker kitchen in Dove Grey with a modern twist was a perfect choice.

The shaker kitchen is a timeless style that has adapted through the years but remained robust in popularity. We teamed this style with Caesarstone Quartz Misty Carrera worktops and splashbacks.

In our expert opinion, kitchen islands are a must where space permits. In terms of quality time with the family and everyday interaction, they'll add heaps of value to your new kitchen.

With the abundance of space, it was a no-brainer in this project. Teamed with these trendy bar stools and cool lighting, the island became the room's main feature, perfect for sitting around and enjoying family time for many years to come. We used the Bora hob with a cooktop extractor which is ideal for this open space to reduce cooking smells from travelling around the house.

We stuck with the latest mod-cons throughout for the rest of the appliances, including a Siemens double oven with warming drawer, wine cooler, and Quooker tap.

For this kitchen design, we had the honour of working with interior designer Leighton Home Style throughout. Her influence in the creative really helped us to bring the whole house together harmoniously. She knows her stuff!
