What does a kitchen designer's kitchen look like?

Last year turned out to be busier than ever thanks to a surge in the desire for home improvements.

And whilst we haven’t had the start we hoped for in 2021, we’re still excited here at Audus Kitchens with the many projects we are working on.

One of our own kitchen projects

We wanted to kick off this year’s communications by sharing some projects we’ve recently completed, including the kitchen in the home of our very own designers – Director John Lindsey.

Knowing the endless options available, it took a while to decide what he wanted, and he drafted at least 11 kitchens before he was sure. There was a fair bit of pressure to achieve the wow factor as creating kitchens is what he does every day!

A black, handleless kitchen

At Audus Kitchens, we’ve worked on numerous dark-coloured kitchens these past few years, and it inspired him to go over to the dark side himself.

He chose a handleless kitchen in an on-trend matte black with an easy-touch, anti-print finish. With a heavy workload and two young kids ruling the roost, everything needed to be low maintenance and easy to keep clean!

Black, integrated appliances

For the appliances, he opted for Siemens integrated black options, and a Bora hob that kept the space’s fluidity. They are all brands we use a lot and have undertaken training in, so I know they’re high quality and reliable.

Like many of our clients, he wanted easy access to a full size fridge freezer. To ensure he could incorporate this, he chose two full-size ovens (one with microwave facility) that were stacked on top of each other. With the right thoughtful design, this saved valuable space yet remained easy to use.

Black Quooker Tap

We’re always bigging up the Quooker as a kitchen must-have, so it will be no surprise that this tried and trusted instant boiling water tap found its way into John’s kitchen! In a pretty stylish sleek matt black, it fitted my kitchen design perfectly.

The Bora hob is the star of the show though. It is vented under the floor, which gets rid of all the smells. That’s crucial if you’re working with an open plan living space.

LED lighting

In any kitchen, lighting is hugely important. It’s one thing that’s not that easy to change down the line, so you want to nail it at the design stage. We used LED lights inside the units that illuminate automatically when the cupboards are opened. They were also under the wall units too (a very popular 2021 trend) -  perfect not only as task lighting, but also to create ambience in the evening.

Metallic kitchen finishing touches

The space was completed with bronze mirror splashbacks to add a touch of extra luxury.

In line with new guidelines, we’re now back working on kitchen designs, so if you’d like to head over to the dark side in your next project, simply hit Reply and we’ll arrange a time to chat.
