How Will The Pandemic Affect Kitchen Designs?
Over the last 12 months, everything has changed.
Kitchen design is no exception.
Central to this change is a strong focus on multifunctional and open plan living, storage solutions, hygiene and comfort.
So, what does this look like?
Multifunctional and Open Plan Kitchens
Open plan kitchens have been popular for some time now, but as we move out of this pandemic, a practical and adaptable kitchen for all the family will be a must-have.
We’ve recognised the need to have a kitchen that is used for so much more than just cooking.
The dividing walls often come down in a multifunctional space, somewhere we can prepare food, socialise, work, relax, and one day, entertain too! The lines have been blurred between rooms to create a larger functional area that brings the whole family together.
Open plan kitchens often incorporate a variety of seating, from bar stools, dining tables to armchairs, like. Perfect for breakfast alone, dinner as a family, and evening drinks when the kids have gone to bed. Our Nolte Nova Lack kitchen pictured above is a great example of this.
Kitchen Storage Solutions
More than ever, we’re craving kitchen storage that is clever, relevant for our needs and uses the maximum space possible. We love our Masterclass kitchen storage solutions, like the Magnaspace pull out larder and VelaBin integrated kitchen bin:
Hygiene
Something we’ll all be more conscious of as we move into ‘the new normal’.
The days of eating cake someone had just blown on, or shaking hands with a stranger feel like a distant memory right now!
As we move forward, we’re subconsciously drawn to kitchens that look clean and are easy to keep clean.
Expect to see a rise in handleless kitchen design, durable stone worktops and minimal design in simple neutral colours. We love our Masterclass Milano kitchen for its clean lines and matt finish, pictured above.
It also shines a light on some fantastic technology that has not been deemed necessary until now despite being around awhile, including touch-free technology, pull out taps and self-cleaning appliances.
