How To Create An Open-Plan Kitchen
We’re all demanding so much more from our kitchens.
Not only do we want to cook in them, but we’re also looking for a place to work, entertain, relax and socialise.
That has fueled the revolution towards open-plan kitchens, and they’ve been hugely popular in most of our kitchen projects in the last year.
But where do you start when planning a new kitchen design?!
The first step when you’re starting a kitchen project is to look for inspiration. Take a look at photos and videos here on our website to see what you like (there are heaps of recent projects) and if some of those ideas could work for you.
Ask yourself why you’re looking to create a new kitchen space…
· Are you looking to extend?
· Are you simply renovating?
· Do you want to entertain guests more?
· Are you working from home long-term?
In essence, it depends entirely on your space and what you want to achieve.
Creating an Open-Plan Kitchen Space
Open-plan kitchens have been popular for a long time, but the pandemic has accelerated the move towards a more free-flowing space.
Creating an open-place space means bringing down those dividing walls to create a place where you prepare food, relax, socialise, and entertain too.
The kitchen has become a meeting place as the lines blur between rooms to create a functional space that is so much more than just a kitchen!
Thinking Practically
It’s easy to get lost in the planning, but if you’re thinking about extending or renovating your kitchen, you’d be wise to consider how to maximise your storage space.
You need practical storage solutions built to last, although they do need to look incredible too; that’s a given!
Open-plan kitchens often incorporate a range of seating, whether it’s barstools, dining tables or armchairs.
This helps to keep the room multi-functional, so you can grab breakfast at the barstool, sit down for dinner as a family or have friends over for drinks in the evening.
Lockdown Influences
Everything’s changed in the last year and a bit, without a doubt. The same is true in kitchen design – because our priorities are now different.
Lockdown forced us all to look forensically at our homes, so we’ve all become interior kitchen designers, planning the next project and finding ways to improve the place we’ve been spending more and more time.
That isn’t likely to change any time soon.
Working from home will continue in some capacity for many, whether it’s part-time or full-time, while we’re more likely to entertain at home now than we were pre-pandemic.
