How To Create a Scandinavian Kitchen

Born from the imagination of cold Nordic winters, the Scandinavian kitchen style is one of simplicity, nature and cheer.

This subtle and upcoming design is right at home in the kitchen, and when we were given the brief for this recent project, we were excited to get started.

Our client wanted an open-plan space for their spacious St Albans home, that was multi-functional and suitable for the whole family to enjoy.

They envisioned a Scandinavian style with a personal touch full of warm woods and natural textures that was trendy yet inviting. You’ll see in this one minute video below, we feel we achieved this perfectly!

We chose a Nobilia kitchen in Structura Havanna Oak teamed with the Touch Lacquered Laminate in Black Supermatt to create a kitchen that was stylish and full of warmth. This combination of woods and matt black is a popular choice for the Scandi kitchen style, and the light wood offsets the darker units perfectly to open up the room.

Nobilia offers ultimate flexibility with a wide range of cabinet and plinth sizes, enabling us to create a completely custom kitchen to fit this corner of the room seamlessly.

We teamed the cabinets with a contrasting white Quartz worktop (in Verona Nuvo) that reflected the room's light and could cope with the everyday hustle and bustle of family life. Quartz worktops are an excellent option for any kitchen; they're robust, aesthetically pleasing, and suit all styles from modern to traditional. In this case, the natural stone fitted perfectly with the Scandi kitchen style.

These cupboards were as impressive on the inside as they were on the outside, fitted with bespoke storage solutions to help this family get the most out of their kitchen.

This contemporary space was finished with the best in modern kitchen appliances including a Siemens double oven, Bora induction hob and a Quooker hot water tap.

The room acquires lots of natural light for the wall length bi-fold doors and skylights plus the addition of spotlights, but we think you'll agree the statement lighting takes pride of place over the island and dining table.

It's our clients that make a house a home, though, and the addition of the popular Scandinavian pastels and cool, retro interiors in this room complete it beautifully.
