Creating a family friendly kitchen

If 2020 has shown us anything, it’s that home really is where the heart is.

Families have reunited and reconnected, and a lot of it has happened in the kitchen.

So, now that we’ve all fallen back in love with staying in, I wanted to share a few tips to help you create a kitchen that the whole family can enjoy spending time in.

Multi-functional Living

Blur the lines by tearing down walls, opening up rooms and creating interactive spaces that can evolve with the changing times.

Kitchens are for so much more than a place for just cooking, and when you remove the boundaries to your living room, you’ll create a space that is social and inviting.

An Abundance of Seating

When it comes to seating in a family kitchen, you can never have too much.

As standard, you should try and have available seating for every member of your household, but if space permits, add room for at least two guests, maybe even four!

Seating doesn’t need to be in the form of just dining chairs, mix it up with a combination of bar stools, armchairs or even a sofa. This will instantly add a sense of relaxation and familiarity to the room.

Kitchen Island

Nothing says family-friendly kitchen, like a kitchen island.

Add seating and watch how people gravitate towards them at parties. It’s also the perfect place for a meal in a hurry or overseeing the children’s homework.

Personal Touches

Remember that ultimately, this space needs to work for you.

In a modern multi-functional space, anything goes. So have fun with it.

If you’re working from home, consider a corner with a desk and office chair, this functional area could also be used for schoolwork.

For homes that are busy with small children, a blackboard is a fantastic addition. But if your children are all grown up, you might want to consider a gin bar or trolly!
